It’s that time of year again… San Diego Comic-Con!

It’s July in San Diego. That means one thing to me: San Diego Comic-Con!

San Diego Comic-Con is the best pop culture convention in the world.

I spend most of my time at panels, listening to people who are at the height of their craft discussing their journeys and their passions. I purchase original art in Artists Alley. I enjoy the cosplayers, admiring their dedication to their craft in the warmth of a San Diego summer. I appreciate having the time to hang out with some of my dearest friends.

There is something for everyone. That is what I love most about Comic-Con – the joy.

My Panels

This year, I’ll be on two panels.

The first is Comic-Con Museum: Co-Designing a Popular Arts Learning Center with our Community. I was lucky to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Comic-Con Museum on a makerspace activity to support their current exhibit: Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder: Where Science Meets Fiction. This panel will highlight the museum’s commitment to STEAM community outreach and educator resources.

The second is Science in Middle Grade Sci-Fi panel. Authors and scientists, including me, will ponder the role of science in books for a middle grade audience. Does science enhance or impede storytelling? Does accuracy matter? Join us to find out!

Badges to Comic-Con sell out months in advance.  However, these panels are also part of the Comic-Con Conference for Educators and Librarians! This is a little-known FREE part of the larger con, held at the San Diego Central Library, which is located a few blocks away from the convention center. If you already have a Comic-Con badge, you can walk right in. If you don’t have a badge, you should register in advance because space is limited.

Hopefully we’ll see you soon at the con!
