Upcoming for 2026 – The Sky Tonight

It’s a new year! That means new topics for The Sky Tonight!

The Sky Tonight planetarium shows update the audience on current events in astronomy, before taking them on a tour of the night sky. Then, each month we focus a different topic, so no two shows are the same.

The planned topics for 2026 are:

  • January 2026 – Cosmology
  • February 2026 – Our Moon
  • March 2026 – Observatories around the World (in advance of a Palomar Observatory trip scheduled for April 2026)
  • April 2026 – Spectacular Spring Sky
  • May 2026 – The Smallest Stars
  • June 2026 – Mineralogy in the Universe
  • July 2026 – Habitable Worlds (with a pop culture emphasis, for our annual Comic-Con Tie-In)
  • August 2026 – Time Travel and Relativity
  • September 2026 – Falling into Fall
  • October 2026 – Galaxies Galore
  • November 2026 – Astronomy around the World
  • December 2026 – Tidal Forces in Nature

The in-person The Sky Tonight shows are performed in the Heikhoff Giant Dome Theater at the Fleet Science Center on the first Wednesday night and the second Sunday morning of each month. The Sunday shows are a little shorter (45 minutes vs 60 minutes) to be more accommodating to young children.  And if you can’t join us in Balboa Park, The Sky Tonight: Virtual Edition is offered on the third Wednesday at 7 PM. We’ll make sure you have the same beautiful learning experience as the audience under the dome. And the virtual shows are pay-as-you-wish! From free to $20, with any amount going to support events like these. Just make sure you register in advance so you can receive the Zoom link.

Hopefully we’ll see you soon at The Sky Tonight and other events at the Fleet Science Center.

Wishing you clear skies!
