Andromeda – The Sky Tonight

It’s the first week of the month. You know what that means… it’s time for The Sky Tonight!

The Sky Tonight planetarium show takes the audience on a tour of the night sky, and then we focus on a specific topic. Our October shows will feature one of the beauties of the fall sky, the Andromeda Galaxy.

What will you see?

The Andromeda Galaxy is the most distant object visible to the naked eye, and it is the closest large galaxy to our own Milky Way. Because of this, we have studied the galaxy intensively for a long time and in many wavelength regimes. We’ve been able to transform the barely visible ghostly cloud in the sky into individual stars and nebulae. We’ll use the planetarium to visualize the beauty of the Andromeda Galaxy, as well as understand its historical importance and learn its ultimate fate.

Sky Tonight showing times and modalities

The Sky Tonight is performed in the Heikhoff Giant Dome Theater at the Fleet Science Center the first Wednesday night and the second Sunday morning of every month. And if you can’t join us in person, join us for The Sky Tonight: Virtual Edition on the third Wednesday at 7 PM. We’ll make sure you have the same beautiful learning experience as the audience under the dome. And the virtual shows are pay-as-you-wish! From free to $20, with any amount going to support events like these. Just make sure you register in advance so you can receive the Zoom link.

Hopefully we’ll see you soon at The Sky Tonight and other events at the Fleet Science Center.

Wishing you clear skies!
