Pups & Perambulations #1

Here is one thing you need to understand about me: if I’m not teaching, giving a public science presentation, or nerding out over Star Wars, I’m likely out walking with my dogs somewhere in San Diego. Allow me to introduce the little fuzzy loves of my life.

THE PUPS

dogs, pups

This is Dozer. He is our first dog and adopting him was the best decision we ever made. He had bounced around a few different shelters and was estimated to be six months old when he entered our lives. We have no idea why he had been passed over by other potential pet parents, because he is such a loving little fellow.

Dozer is never happier than when he is out exploring on a walk. He is almost thirteen years old now, but don’t let the grey in his muzzle fool you. He’s still a puppy.

Pups, Dogs

We loved our Dozer so much that we knew we had to add another dog to our family. This is Amelia. She was born in a shelter, and we have met her mom, Earhart. So, Amelia was an obvious choice for a name. She is snuggly and ridiculous. She is judgmental and lets us know if she doesn’t like something.

She also was about six months old when we adopted her, and again, we are baffled why it took so long for her to be chosen. She is nine years old, but we still think of her as the new dog.

As much as Dozer loves walking, Amelia would rather sit on any bench we find. They look like twins but have such distinct personalities. They run our lives.

THE PERAMBULATION

These are photos from a recent walk around Spanish Landing Park.

Spanish Landing Park, nature, waterfront

San Diego has so many wonderful parks, and leashed dogs are allowed at most of them.  This particular park is along San Diego’s waterfront. It is located directly across from San Diego International Airport, but there is not as much aircraft noise as you might expect because the park parallels the flight path but isn’t underneath it. This park is less crowded than some of the other parts of San Diego Bay, making it a pleasant place to stroll with our dogs. It is also one of the rare places near the water where there are no time restrictions on when dogs are allowed.

Hanging out with our dogs is one of my greatest joys, so expect to see more of them. I’ll lure you in with photos of cute pups, and hopefully you’ll stick around for the science!
